My Boss Episode 6 Story: “Cheng Yao discovers Qian Heng’s secret”
In this episode, Cheng Yao decides to dig deeper into Qian Heng’s personal life, hoping to gain insights that might help her friend Bai Xingmeng in the ongoing lawsuit. After work, Qian Heng invites Cheng Yao to his apartment for dinner, claiming it’s part of their shared tenancy agreement. During the meal, they discuss the case, and Qian Heng advises Cheng Yao to focus on evidence rather than getting emotionally involved with the client.
Qian Heng later takes Cheng Yao to a young lawyers’ party to prevent unwanted attention. In the sorority event, Qian Heng’s indifferent responses to the opposite sex raise questions about his single status. Meanwhile, Cheng Xi waits for Cheng Yao at the amusement park but discovers Wu Jun standing behind her. Cheng Xi questions Wu Jun about Cheng Yao’s sudden overtime, suspecting his involvement.
The sorority’s second part involves rowing, and Qian Heng insists Cheng Yao teams up with him using the year-end bonus as leverage. While paddling, Cheng Yao accidentally drops the oars into the water, leaving them stranded. Qian Heng, shivering from the cold, warns Cheng Yao not to show affection intentionally. They later change into dry clothes at a hotel.
In a parallel storyline, Wu Jun and Cheng Xi visit a haunted house. However, the eerie setting left them terrified beyond their expectations. Stunned, they stood motionless for an extended period once they emerged from the haunted house. When they finally regained their composure, Wu Jun and Cheng Xi opened up about the recent hotel incident to Cheng Xi, assuring her of their responsibility in the matter.
Before Cheng Xi could respond, a call from Qian Heng interrupted the conversation. Qian Heng requested Wu Jun to fetch a set of clothes from his apartment and deliver them to a designated hotel. Additionally, he asked Wu Jun to purchase a set of women’s clothes on the way. Wu Jun complied with the request, delivering the clothes to the hotel. To his surprise, he encountered Qian Heng and Cheng Yao, both wrapped in bath towels. Perplexed, Wu Jun questioned Qian Heng about the situation, prompting a warning from Qian Heng not to overthink the scenario. Both Qian Heng and Cheng Yao vehemently denied any romantic involvement.
Returning to the apartment, Qian Heng resumed his work when an unexpected visitor, Dong Min, knocked on the door. Dong Min, who had been pursuing Qian Heng, prompted him to hide in the room. Qian Heng, attempting to deter Dong Min, sent a message to him, pretending that Cheng Yao was his live-in girlfriend. Cheng Yao, intrigued by Qian Heng’s mysterious suitor, took the initiative to open the door. Dong Min handed Cheng Yao a decisive letter, confidently stating that Qian Heng would be his eventually.
Once Dong Min left, Qian Heng clarified the nature of his relationship with Dong Min to Cheng Yao. Dong Min was the daughter of a significant client, and despite Qian Heng rejecting her emotionally, she persisted in pursuing him. Cheng Yao couldn’t help but wonder about the underlying motive behind Dong Min’s interest, questioning why Qian Heng, with access to a vacant villa, was competing for an apartment.
The following day, Cheng Yao delved into the law firm’s files for the past three months, discovering Qian Heng’s regular contact with a psychiatrist. This revelation led her to the realization that Qian Heng frequently struggled with insomnia. She connected the dots, understanding that her nightly routine of making midnight snacks and humming songs was inadvertently serving as a form of therapy for Qian Heng. The discovery brought a sense of satisfaction to Cheng Yao.
