My Boss Episode 34 Story: “Cheng Yao deals with inheritance disputes and confronts Qian Heng”

Qian Heng insisted that Cheng Yao accompany him to the alumni association event. Cheng Yao, perceiving Qian Heng’s good intentions, accepted without objection. During the gathering with several old classmates, Qian Heng publicly declared Cheng Yao as his girlfriend. Both individuals were focused on their careers, with Qian Heng assuming it was about marriage. However, Cheng Yao clarified that the announcement was about officializing their relationship, emphasizing her desire for respect and understanding. She expressed her reluctance to be treated merely as an extension of Qian Heng. Despite Qian Heng’s attempts to explain, Cheng Yao remained adamant in her stance. Qian Heng was puzzled by the unintended disrespect he caused Cheng Yao. Wu Jun advised Qian Heng to carefully consider Cheng Yao’s perspective. Cheng Yao confided in Cheng Xi, who encouraged her to reflect on her feelings and strive for self-improvement to earn the respect she deserved.

At Jincheng Law Firm, Li Chengxuan informed Cheng Yao about a new case involving Chen Linli. Chen Linli and her husband had been involved in a hot air balloon accident during a trip abroad, resulting in the tragic loss of her husband and son. Although Chen Linli sustained minor injuries, she was more concerned about the legal issues surrounding her husband’s inheritance upon their return to China. Chen Linli’s mother-in-law demanded an equal share of the equity in their company, Kaili Company, but Chen Linli refused to relinquish her stake. Despite losing the initial court case, Chen Linli insisted on Cheng Yao representing her in the appeal. Li Chengxuan assured Cheng Yao that the decision to take on the case was entirely hers, without any pressure from him.

During their meeting, Chen Linli revealed that her mother-in-law had hired Qian Heng as her attorney, recognizing his formidable reputation in the legal field. She believed that only a woman, such as Cheng Yao, could potentially deter Qian Heng. Understanding Chen Linli’s intentions, Cheng Yao affirmed her commitment to the case, emphasizing her determination to rely on her own abilities. Learning that Cheng Yao would be his opponent in court, Qian Heng urged her to withdraw voluntarily, emphasizing his impartiality to friendships in legal matters. However, Cheng Yao reassured him of her confidence and encouraged him to demonstrate his legal prowess to achieve a sense of fulfillment, regardless of the case’s outcome.

Cheng Xi, now a partner at Jun Heng, established a public welfare case team upon joining the firm. Wu Jun confided in Cheng Xi about Qian Heng’s discontent since Cheng Yao took on Chen Linli’s case, causing tension among the employees. Cheng Xi found solace in realizing Qian Heng’s genuine affection for Cheng Yao. Feeling dejected, Cheng Yao sought solace at Li Mengting’s house. Suddenly, she received distressing news from Gu Beiqing that Chen Linli had attempted suicide and rushed to the hospital.

At the hospital, Chen Linli revealed to Cheng Yao that it was her late husband’s birthday, prompting her to order a cake out of habit, only to realize his absence. Chen Linli expressed her deep affection for her husband and explained her refusal to divide the company’s equity with her mother-in-law. She feared her mother-in-law’s lack of understanding about running a startup could jeopardize the company’s future. Moved by Chen Linli’s devotion, Cheng Yao vowed to assist her to the best of her ability.

Cheng Yao began visiting other survivors from the hot air balloon accident, learning of Chen Linli’s selflessness in prioritizing her family’s safety despite her own injuries. Inspired by Chen Linli’s resilience, Cheng Yao resolved to support her wholeheartedly.

In an effort to aid Qian Heng, Cheng Xi arranged for him to care for Megatron under the guise of a business trip. Unfamiliar with pet care, Qian Heng sought advice from Cheng Yao. During their meeting, Cheng Yao clarified that she agreed to meet solely to discuss the case. She proposed a settlement between the parties before the trial’s second phase, citing evidence of Chen Linli’s altruism. However, Qian Heng, drawing from his legal expertise, deemed reconciliation unlikely, given the opposing party’s unwavering stance. Cheng Yao emphasized her belief in the law’s capacity for compassion, emphasizing its role in safeguarding not just assets but also love.
