In this episode, the aftermath of the Chen Qingmei case unfolds as Qian Heng tends to Cheng Yao’s scratched arm, fostering a moment of reconciliation. Bao Rui’s celebratory dinner proposal is met with Cheng Yao’s somber mood, prompting Qian Heng to delve into the complexities of judging individuals and the law’s impartiality.

Cheng Yao, enlightened by Qian Heng’s insights, reassesses her emotional approach and rededicates herself to her role as Qian Heng’s assistant. Despite the initial emotional turmoil, Cheng Yao returns to her workstation with renewed determination, her thoughts occasionally drifting to Qian Heng.

A restless night for Qian Heng, living in the villa, prompts a late-night call to Wu Jun. Wu Jun rushes to the apartment, where Cheng Yao, engrossed in TV dramas, witnesses Qian Heng’s search for pens. Unexpectedly, Qian Heng expresses a desire to move back, catching Cheng Yao off guard. She helps arrange a taxi for Qian Heng and watches him leave.

The next day, Qian Heng, battling insomnia, conceals dark circles with sunglasses. Cheng Yao summarizes the Chen Qingmei case, but Qian Heng remains noncommittal. Bao Rui praises Cheng Yao’s performance, causing a slight stir. Cheng Yao, noticing Qian Heng’s fatigue, suggests he moves back to the apartment, steering the conversation away when Bao Rui intervenes.

Cheng Yao invites her colleagues for a meal at Pizza Hut, where Bao Rui receives distressing news about Chen Qingmei giving birth prematurely. The child faces complications, leading to a diagnosis of cerebral palsy. Mr. Dong decides to withdraw the paternity test due to the child’s health issues, while Jiang Wenxiu and Dong Min contemplate immigrating abroad.

Cheng Yao’s parents visit, unaware of Qian Heng’s relocation. Preparing for a trip, Qian Heng stays at the apartment. Cheng Yao plays a horror movie, hoping to scare him away, but the plan backfires, and they end up spending time together. As they get ready for bed, a power outage prompts Cheng Yao to seek refuge in Qian Heng’s bedroom. Both unable to sleep, they share stories from their early careers, bond over late-night snacks
